In the present day Danny’s feelings for Kelly are tested by his discovery of Raife’s ongoing affairs, even while she is pregnant. Unsettled, Danny returns to the late Iron Age, but the shifting currents of tribal conflict are as difficult as the rushing waters of a deadly river. Treachery makes it hard to tell friend from foe and Danny is torn between his two families 2000 years apart. Then village life is threatened by refugees from a war across the water, and Danny has hard decisions to make.
